Selecting and cutting your own Christmas tree can be a great family activity. Tree growers usually open just after Thanksgiving and offer a variety of activities--wagon or sleigh rides, petting farm animals, eating yummy food--and sell a variety of items--wreaths, homemade gifts, and farm produce. Make sure you call before going the first time. Here are some questions you may want to ask.
1. What are your hours?
2. What types of trees do you sell?
3. Do you supply the saw or should I bring one?
4. Do you offer tree wrapping?
5. Do you provide carry-out bags?
6. Do you have bathroom facilities?
If your tree is going to be large and you plan to put it on the roof of your car, don't forget to bring some rope. Once you get your tree home, if you don't plan to put it in a tree stand immediately, prop it up against the side of the house in a bucket of water. Just-cut trees can drink a lot of water, and you want this because, the longer the tree continues to drink water, the longer it will stay green. Happy Holidays!
